Description

This project comprised the demolition of the existing Veiner Centre for seniors in Medicine Hat, with the foundation and minor portions of the structure preserved. Originally built in the 1950’s, the facility was badly damaged in the 2013 Southern Alberta floods. Also included was a new 6,500-square-foot addition, exterior site work, and remedial works to an adjacent park.

The new building incorporates an open concept with gathering area and dining room, commercial kitchen, presentation/meeting room, multi-use activity spaces, games room, and a crafts room. An integral part of the community, it hosts the Lions Club, Seniors Citizens Advisory Committee and the local Meals on Wheels program.

One of Falex’s main goals on the project was to foster collaboration and to help create an integrated project team, which resulted in optimum on-site performance. The project was completed on budget and achieved substantial completion 2 weeks ahead of schedule.
